Invensys Process Systems
Intrinsically Safe I/O

IPS offers external termination panels that comply with the ATEX standard. ATEX is a standard put forth by the European Union that specifies the behavior of the field terminations (External Termination Panels) as is related to the current and temperature operating limits so that they may be safe in the presence of flammable gases.

These new termination panels provide significant savings without the need to install isolation barriers adding costs, complexity and more points of failure.  Using these termination panels gives the customer the benefit of simpler field circuitry design, installation, maintenance and complying with the ATEX directive.

Per requirements of IEC 61508 and IEC European Directive 94/9/EC for field circuitry in potentially explosive atmospheres – the ATEX standard, systems to be delivered to countries in the European Union are required to meet the technical requirements for non-incendive field circuitry.

North American Class I Div II

·        Class 1, Division 2 Groups C and D hazardous locations per the requirements of ANSI/ISA S12.12.01-200

·        Non-incendive electrical equipment for use in Class I and II, Division 2 and Class III, Divisions 1 and 2 Hazardous (classified) locations

European Class I Div II, Zone 2 non-incendive

·        Zone 2 Group IIB hazardous locations per the requirements of EN 60079-15

·        Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres – Part 15: Type protection “n”

TUV certified compliance for:

·        Class I Div II, Zone 2 non-incendive

·        Certified to protect against power failures

·        Current and thermally limiting termination panels

Appropriate ATEX termination panels can be used only with its designated module or module family.  See the Field Terminations Guide for Tricon v9 – v10 for details.

Tricon Low Density Chassis system does not support the ATEX termination panels.

ATEX termination panels are for use in Tricon systems only.
