The Communication Module (CM) on the Trident is an interface to the MPs that enable use of industry-standard protocols such as Modbus for information exchange between the safety and critical controller and the Distributed Control System.
A single Trident controller can support up to two CMs each of then operating independently. This array can provide redundant or independent connectivity.
Besides providing flexible communication schemes based on industry standards, the communication modules are certified as part of the TÜV certification process ensuring that communication will not interfere with the safety function. Such design ensures that a failure or disruption of the communication network will not affect the performance of the safety system.
