Control System Emulation 

Checking out controls in the lab can save days or weeks of commissioning time and have your plant online sooner.  

SimSci Esscor offers FSIM Plus (simulation for I/A Series controllers) and TRISIM Plus (simulation for Triconex controls) and is valuable for Compressor TMC controls. Benefits of control checkout include:

  • Identify control logic errors
  • Identify graphics configuration errors and HMI ergonomics
  • Pre-tune analog control loops using high-fidelity modeling
  • Test coordinated or feed forward controls
  • Test TMC controls that protect a compressor from damage due to surge

Considered "Virtual Stimulation," FSIM Plus and TRISIM Plus are based on actual IPS control logic for an exact match of the control hardware response.

IPS provides control system checkout as part of Design to Training, which is a side benefit of many operator training simulator (OTS) projects for new plant construction projects.

FSIM Plus and TRISIM Plus enable comprehensive control system checkout and tuning before and after plant start-up without having to employ duplicate control processors and tie up the full complement of system hardware. This feature is a strong economic alternative for those who cannot afford additional hardware for projects. Checking out new controls and corresponding HMI, well in advance of commissioning the control system, dramatically reduces the critical plant start-up time and eliminates unforeseen defects in the control system software. This reduced start-up time translates into significant cost savings. It can also shorten outage and retrofit times for existing installations.

In one case, the control checkout of an LNG propane compressor reduced the plant downtime from nine days to three days. Since the plant sold $1million per day of LNG, control checkout allowed increased revenue of $6 million dollars.

All Dynamic Simulation Control Emulation products offer special command and control simulation features that allow engineers absolute control of the simulation processes.

  • RUN/FREEZE   permits the user to halt a testing procedure at any time and obtain a detailed, comprehensive view of the entire control system performance.
  • STEP   permits the engineer to run a model forward in single steps, enabling extremely accurate diagnosis of equipment trips and stability issues.
  • SPEED   allows the engineer to decrease or increase the simulation speed relative to real-time.
  • SAVE/RESTORE   allows accurate archiving of any system state for later use in training and/or troubleshooting.

Operator Training Synergy  
FSIM and TRISIM Plus are also used for operator training simulators. An optional Simulator Bridge module allows for easy integration with any simulation and modeling package using a standard programming interface

High Fidelity Modeling  
FSIM Plus and TRISIM Plus include a DYNSIM® model "starter kit" with valves, pumps, vessels, heat exchangers and limited multi-component thermodynamics. With a full DYNSIM license, these models can be extended to detailed process models that include full thermodynamics, compression, distillation and reactions.
